NZTA has decided not to proceed with SkyPath which would have attached to the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Instead NZTA is planning to build a separate bridge called the Northern Pathway, which has been selcted for fast-tracking of RMA processing.
The Northern Pathway has pro's and con's... it's slightly wider (5 metres) and would have no limit of the number of users, however it's a lot more expensive (currently estimated at $240 million), needs a new resource constent and now NZTA advise it requires an anchorage buttress in Te Onewa Pa Reserve along with the removal of houses and scheduled (protected) pohutukawa. We have suggested a design for the landing at Northcote Point that does not require removal of houses.
Unfortunately the Northern Pathway also introduces delay and risks. The project's delivery timeframe has been slipping while costs increase significantly. We're not fully comfortable with all this but NZTA seem committed to getting on with it; so we're working with them the best we can to assist.
