The GetAcross campaign is managed by MOVEMENT (formerly SkyPath Trust)Contact: Bevan Woodward, Executive Officer via email. Getacross began in 2008, as a grassroots campaign to challenge local and government authorities who insisted that a walking and cycling crossing was not possible. Many Aucklanders were sick of years of delay and stonewalling by transport authorities. That spirit grew into a massive public demonstration of protest in May 2009, when 5,000 people surged across the Harbour Bridge in protest at lack of action by authorities. |
The 2009 Bridge March was a crucial turning point which led to a coalition of Aucklanders coming together as the SkyPath Trust, chaired by Christine Rose and project managed by Bevan Woodward, with a project team including committed campaigners, professional engineers, architects, and business leaders who believed a private Auckland Harbour Bridge pathway solution could be developed
Thousands of Aucklanders have supported the GetAcross campaign, and now we need to see genuine action from Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency to deliver on what has been promised for over a decade.
Until the promise of an accessible, inclusive city is realised, and NZTA completes active transport access across the Auckland Harbour Bridge - Getacross will continue to be the voice of Aucklanders who believe in the vital importance for our city of walking and cycling access across the Waitematā harbour.
