We support Minister Wood's request for a temporary trial of a lane for active transport on Auckland Harbour Bridge!
Latest update: We've sent this letter to Waka Kotahi's Chair Brian Roche which highlights their flawed rationale for refusing a trial for walking & cycling on the Harbour Bridge. Their main reason is due to pedestrian versus cyclist crashes would be “highly likely in either a one or two-lane reallocation”. We think this is a nonsense and will proceed with a judicial review of their decision.
Here's our letter to Waka Kotahi/NZTA outlining why we will lodge an application for a judicial review in the High Court.
It's time for NZTA to trial liberating a traffic lane for walking & cycling. This will enable Aucklanders of all ages and abilities to get out of their cars and walk, scooter, cycle, etc. The reduction in vehicles means traffic flows will improve across the network and greenhouse gases will reduce.
Please email NZTA's CEO Nicole Rosie to ask them to get behind Minister Wood's request for a trial lane for active transport. Auckland deserves a multi-modal bridge so that everyone can get around more easily.
Let's keep the pressure on NZTA - please join our campaign to GetAcross!..
